The night we went to the taproom it was freezing outside. I was not looking forward to waiting in a food truck line at ALL. But you know what Two Guys in a Lunchbox had? A waiter. A really nice dude who walked around the taproom, took orders, and delivered to your table when the food was ready. No standing in lines! That was a much-needed convenience during cold weather.
To start off we ordered the tasting platter of sides. There was so much food that it came in two large baskets. Included were mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, fried mushrooms, onion rings and fries. This meal was definitely a splurge for me since I mostly eat paleo and rarely ever eat fried foods. But you know what, this was really good fried food and we all need a break every once in a while. It reminded me of going to a county fair and filling yourself up on all that stuff that you just KNEW was bad for you. Honestly, you can see the grease at the bottom of the box, but you overlook all that because the stuff is just so damn good. Steve was a big fan of the jalapeno poppers, mostly because they were made with real cream cheese and not that gross orange stuff you see all the time. I really liked the onion rings. I think we both agreed that the fries were kind of lackluster compared to the rest. They were skinny fries and that isn't personally my thing.
Steve ordered the Muffaletta and it might have been the biggest sandwich I have ever seen. The bread was so thick I couldn't fit the whole thing in my mouth when I tried to take a bite. The sandwich was pretty standard overall, but I enjoyed the olive spread used on the bread. Steve quite enjoyed it and ate more of this sandwich than I would think humanly possible. I believe the standard serving is only half of what you see above, and they were just being extra generous to us with this one. But Steve gladly had the second half for lunch the next day!
My favorite deli sandwich is a Reuben, and seeing that I was splurging and they had it on the menu it was a no brainer decision for me. When I went to order the Reuben I was informed of a "special" Reuben - a REUBEN WITH ADDED BACON. Now, I'm normally a Reuben traditionalist but how can bacon ever be wrong?! BACON IS NEVER WRONG. So I went for it. The bacon went surprisingly well with the thousand island dressing and sauerkraut. The sandwich was huge and gooey and filled with cheese and kraut. It was so big I wound up splitting it with my friend Katy, another Reuben connoisseur. We both agreed it was really good, but that it could use more dressing. When you have that much meat (+ special bacon) you need a little bit more lubrication on your bread, you know what I'm saying?
For dessert we tried their toffee Blondie. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting much from a sandwich truck as far as sweets were concerned but this little bugger was good. It was soft and gooey and I shared it with Katy even though I wanted to eat the whole thing myself. (That's what friends are for.)
And the best part?! We came in second place in trivia! Here I am modeling our $25 gift certificate for more tasty drinks at Jackalope! This turned out to be a pretty awesome Thursday night!
Can't wait to tag along next time! Trivia and fried foods are my weakness
ReplyDeleteWe need you Kimmie. I don't know what happened last night but we sucked hardcore.
DeleteHow fun!! I love visiting brew pubs. They really have the best atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteThat reuben looks amazing!
Last night was a fluke, we'll be back!
ReplyDeleteI've heard really good things about Jackalope and haven't made it down there yet; now that I know they have trivia? Oh, it's ON. Congrats on your team win (and that epic food)!
ReplyDeleteOh Lisa, we go every Thursday if you and your man ever want to join!
DeleteThat Ruben looks EPIC! And SO delicious.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great night out! We're definitely going to have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend double checking their schedule. We went last night for Trivia and the food truck was not there. This left some of my friends that were planning to eat there pretty disappointed.
