ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY + Kittenz.

*TODAY I HAVE BEEN BLOGGING FOR ONE FULL YEAR*

This sounds totally crazy to me. I started this blog as something to do while Steve as at SXSW last year. I've always wanted to have a blog, just never felt courageous enough to take the plunge and make it happen. It's amazing what dating a talented photographer can do for one's self esteem. So with some free time and no blogging/html/design skills I started this little blog. I highly recommend NOT reading my old posts as they are terrible and I didn't understand formatting. They are painful to read, but without them I wouldn't be able to see how far I have grown in just one year.
I would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the entire blogging community. If it wasn't for all of your support and encouragement I probably would have thrown in the towel a long time ago. Like most bloggers, I have my periods of self-doubt and the sense of being lost. There are tons of really good bloggers out there and I find it hard to have my own voice and unique spot on the Internet. So whenever I wonder why I do this, I look at my sweet comments and I know why. I have made some really awesome friends through blogging this past year and I wouldn't change that for the world!
This weekend was a good one. The weather was wonderful and I got to have some quality time with some of my favorite people. On Friday night Leah and I got tamales and margaritas, made these awesome string feather earrings (featured here!) and went out dancing at QDP. If you live in Nashville and have not been to a QDP yet, you are seriously missing out.
On Saturday morning I ran my obligatory 9 miles. While I wasn't as fast as I wanted to be, I was faster than the previous weekend. Since the weather was gorgeous Steve and I spent the afternoon hanging around Centennial park and soaking up the sun. Saturday night was spent with good friends playing Cards Against Humanity. On Sunday Steve and I kicked it into high gear and worked on the house. We got so much accomplished! I am proud of us and I love how everything is working. On Sunday night I got to celebrate Jen's birthday. Jen is one of my favorite people ever and I was so happy to celebrate with her.
I was feeling a little moody (re: emo) when I put this outfit together. I just got the horrible news that our already-postponed Morrissey concert was officially CANCELLED. Thanks, Mozz (but really, get better). I decided to go with black bone leggings because that's what a sad goth girl would wear, right? But since I'm not a real goth lady I paired it with a kitty tank top because that's just how I roll.
While I would like to say positive things about this tank top, I just can't. Not because it isn't cute, but because the company I purchased it from was TERRIBLE and they have the absolute worst customer service. This was the first time I ordered from them and I can tell you for sure I won't be making that mistake again. I debated writing a blog post about my customer service experience when it first went down, but then I realized it sounded too whiny. Long story short, they sent me the wrong product and ignored numerous emails, tweets and facebook posts to make it right. I still have that wrong product and it irks me. It's like they stole from me or something. END RANT.
How cool is this new earring? Leah came over and showed me how to make string feathers! They were easy and quick to make. I did a terrible job of cutting mine down to make it look like an actual feather. My next one will be way better, I promise!
Top: Company with terrible customer service
Leggings: Romwe
Shoes: Anthropologie
Necklace: Midnight Riders

  1. Those leggings are actually unbelievable. I, too, want to look like an x-ray! HOW COOL! Congrats on your one year blogiversary! And maybe Mozz will come back to us, some sweet day, throat fully healed. I was bummed after we got halfway decent tickets because the day he rescheduled for I was going to be out of town, but now no concert at all?! Le sadness.

    1. Oh man. So you got shafted by the Mozz also? WHY IS HE HURTING ALL THE PEOPLE I LOVE?!

I'm really pessimistic about my chances to see him. It hasn't happened yet and I'm 30!

  2. Happy Blogiversary!!
I love those leggings!! They're pretty badass, and just the right amount of goth (but you can play it up or play it down, as you showed here!).
Can't say I'm not TOTALLY curious as to the company with poor customer service. It's the thing that has kept me from any serious online retail, I'm so afraid of costly screwups that take ages upon ages to get sorted out! That and I HAVE to try stuff on. Paranoia.

    1. I've had really great experiences with most online retail. This happens to be the only turd in years of online shopping, so I still consider my batting average pretty good.

I'll totally send you a message about the company. I wonder if I post the whole (true and sad story) here my internet buddies will gang up on them and get my money back!

  6. Glad to know I am not the only one who completely learned how to blog by trial and error and knowing nada about HTML (which I still don't fully understand). You really are a quick study because you are kicking ass and taking names. Here's to many more blogs with many more pairs of amazing leggings! :)

    1. Thanks Kimmie! I totally took a whole bunch of books on HTML out of the library and read them cover to cover. I took a whole bunch of notes- if you want I can make a copy of them for you. This REEKS of middle school, but I'm ok with that.

    1. Hey, this is the only internet company who I have ever dealt with that has been shady, so I consider myself pretty lucky!

      Thanks!!!!

  10. PARTHENON PHOTOSHOOT, WOO! Happy Blogiversary! I can't believe it's only been a year for you. You have such a nice blogging schedule and clear sense of personal style. Aren't old posts funny, though?

When I started out, I cut and pasted some Facebook notes and recipes into Blogger just to play with formatting and see how a page would actually look with content. And then I just left 'em there forever. They have absolutely no voice or personality, but I don't really care, because I often look the recipes up when I'm standing in the middle of Kroger. True story.

I am SO CURIOUS as to which company sold you the kitty top. Please tell to protect your readers from a similar experience? :D

    1. I will tell you about the cat shirt when we have cocktails. Can we get cocktails soon?!

I'm terribly embarrassed about my first posts. I remember sitting on my couch with my laptop and putting them together and thinking that I was so awesome and a great blogger. Nope. I was just delusional. I was totally patting myself on the back when I didn't deserve it. I hit publish! I'm a blogger!

I've always wanted to be a blogger.. I guess it just took me longer than most to get around to it!

  11. Happy blogiversary! I'm glad you've gotten so much out of blogging. It can be a really fantastic thing. I know it's helped me grow professionally and also has connected me with some of the most inspiring people I've ever met - some of whom I'm fortunate enough to call dear friends now!

    1. Isn't that the best part? I feel like I have such a good group of people locally, nationally and globally that I can go to. I've even had the opportunity to meet some of my favorite out of town bloggers when they were in Nashville visiting.

    1. Thanks lady! The house is getting really good. I'm so proud of us- but I guess knowing that we will have out of town guests staying with us next week has really helped motivate us!

I'm excited to run with you in a few weeks!

    1. hahah.. I wish you don't remember when I first started!

You should come to QDP! And once you see it you will realize there is absolutely no reason to be self conscious there. Everyone is dancing and no one cares!

      Come with me next month!

Happy blogiversary- really the friends are the best part of this whole weird "putting yourself on the internet" world :) Such a bummer about Morrissey, eh? I just got my email last week and I'm really hoping he is better and back on tour soon!

  20. Congrats on one year!!! I actually cringe at my blog posts from a month ago, let alone a year ago.
Your outfit is freaking amazing!! You have the best style. It sucks that the company that you got the cat top from were awful, because the top is so cute.
