Springtime Kittens and a little DIY

I am one incredibly happy camper. Why do I have such a happy face? Because spring has come to Nashville! All of the cherry trees in my neighborhood are blooming and everything smells like fresh cut grass. I have been waiting for this for so long! I did a nice long 8 mile training run on Saturday morning with some of my favorite East Nastys and I think it was my best run yet because the weather was so accommodating. That run was a big confidence booster!
This weekend was super special. Myself, Lladybird Lauren and Elle from Jam + Toast took a trip out to the country to celebrate Kaelah's birthday! We had so much fun hanging out at Kaelah's awesome new digs, gabbing and hanging out around a fire pit. We even went to a local bar where we sang karaoke (Total Eclipse of the Heart), danced and played pool. Kaelah's husband Mike was so sweet and cooked us the most amazing breakfast. Those girls are amazing and I'm so happy I got to spend a weekend with them!
So, this outfit is super special. Why you ask? BECAUSE I MADE THIS SKIRT, Y'ALL. This is my first ever sewing project and I'm crazy happy with how it turned out. I really have the talented Lauren to thank, as she spent an afternoon teaching me how to sew. I also followed along at home with the circle skirt tutorial from Casey's Elegant Musings. This was such a fun skirt to make! I've already finished another, and even started a different type of skirt.
I'm going to brag on this skirt for a bit. I love how big and twirly it is. It's super full and I think the fullness makes my butt look really good (BONUS!). I also love that I put pockets in it; they're the perfect size to hold my cell phone and keys.
Plus, the fabric! I fell in love with this kitty paint by numbers fabric the second I saw it- I knew I had to make something out it. I love this print and I feel like I should make a dress out of it as well. Does anyone know a place where I can get more cute fabric like this? More kittens please!

  3. Lauren the skirt is gorgeous!! That print is way cute, and look at you sewin' up your own clothes! The warm weather definitely makes the thought of making a bunch of skirts more appealing :).

As for places to get awesome kitty fabric, I'd recommend checking out Spoonflower, and oh my god a google search just revealed "Feline Drive" boasting over 700 cat fabrics.... so, there you go! If it's been thought of, it's on the internet. FACT.

    1. Feline Drive is the best website ever! OMG thank you so much for sharing. I totally got lost in it and imagined a whole wardrobe made entirely of cats. (which wouldn't be that different from my current wardrobe).

What have you been working on lately?

    2. I'll be honest, I have been avoiding my craft room like it's got the plague! I have a to-do list a mile long, and I just haven't given myself a chance (or, really, a kick in the pants) to get cracking. I think I'm telling the boy not to head down this way this weekend, and I'm going to dedicate two days to some crafty self love (and hit up all the thrift stores I want. Which is important). It's way past time that I executed these new designs for Premonitory Dreams and did some shop stocking!

    3. I know exactly how you feel. I've been trying to finish this other skirt for what feels like forever but my goodness... I can't find the time to sit down and sew.

I'm really hoping for a lazy Friday night with my machine.

  4. That fabric is amazing! This is exactly why I need to make time to start sewing again, so much more fun. I'm totally impressed. I always check out Ebay for fabrics, cheap, easy and lots of choice. I'm determined to make a puppy print dress for Summer xo

    1. I'll have to check out ebay- I didn't even think of that. I've found some really great stuff on etsy.

  5. That skirt is too cute! I recently inherited a sewing machine that I need to get repaired so I can start making stuff like this. I've been keeping my eye out for some vintage sheets to make a dress out of, but so far nothing has caught my eye.

    1. Oh totally get that machine fixed up! I'm so happy that I got this one for my birthday. I come home from work and all I want to do is cut into some fabric.

You are the thrifting queen- I'm sure you will find some awesome vintage fabric.

  9. Wow- great job on the skirt! Thanks for linking to the tutorial, I've been wanting to get back into sewing actual pieces vs. just altering. I love this outfit- you do us cat ladies proud! Pretty pics too :)

    1. That tutorial was SO HELPFUL. Honestly, I don't know what I would have done with out it. I'm good at following directions on a pattern- but I always like tutorials with tons of detailed pictures better.

I haven't really learned how to alter- I should get on that.

    1. Oh wow... I'm not up to a whole dress yet. I bought a really cute pattern but I have to get some more practice under my belt before I try something more ambitious!

  15. Love this whole outfit. That's amazing that you made this skirt! I've gotten a sewing machine and it's been collecting dust. For some reason I feel really intimidated by it. Dunno. It's dumb. I know.

    1. Don't be afraid of your sewing machine! Me and my baby have had some hard times, for sure. I've cursed at it, threatened it, you name it. But in the end, it works out.

Clean her off and see what she can do!
