Hot Chicken Party

I have some amazing & creative friends. This year, they didn't want to wait in the long lines and high heat of the Music City Hot Chicken Festival, so they decided to bring it home. They went to all of the Hot Chicken joints around town (Pepperfire, 400 degrees, Bolton's, and Prince's) and got a variety of spice-levels from each.

I have to say that this was a quite creative party idea! But, by the time I loaded up my plate with my selections, pickles, bread and a heaping pile of ranch dressing, it was hard to figure out which was which. While sitting around the outside table we all taste-tested and made up our opinions in between crying and sweating and fearing the butthurt that was sure to come.

I like to think I'm sane- so I stayed away from the Bolton's extra hot. But my friends are braver and more intrepid than I, with a few daring to try the hottest offering. Two were greatly affected by the spice, one crying the other running to the kitchen for a mint chip klondike bar. All while one kick-ass lady put one down with no problem- even claiming it wasn't that bad.

I had my rankings figured out and this is what it came down to:
  1. Prince's Hot
  2. Pepperfire Hot
  3. 400 degrees medium
  4. Bolton's Hot

But alas, my friends are tricky. After sitting us down and taking a poll of what we thought was the best, they let us in on a little secret. THERE WAS NO PRINCE'S HOT CHICKEN! I felt like I was in an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Turns out, after hours of trying to call Prince's to put in a order with busy signals and no one picking up, they decided to forgo the most famous hot chicken joint. Instead, they got wings from Pepperfire. I was totally fooled, because Pepperfire is not known for their wings-only for their boneless tenders. Turns out I really like Pepperfire's Hot, but on the bone.

Although my body wasn't very happy with me the day after all of this spicy fried food, I really enjoyed this party. The theme was different and the company darling. I hope that we do this again next year- and that might be the next time I even attempt to eat hot chicken. I need to space eating this stuff out better!

  2. I love your hot chicken day!
We did not go to the hot chick fest cuz I was working outside M, Tu, Th in the heat, and I just did not want to spend another day July 4 outside in the sun and heat. BUT, my favorite is 100 degrees from 400 degrees. It has some heat, a lot of flavor and not a lot of grit that 200 and 400 can have. It doesn't make me cry and sweat though... BUT the 200 will.

And, I added you to my blog roll cuz I love your blog!! Your photos are awesome!
