Old Mill Babe

Happy Monday internet land! I had a great weekend and coming back to real life this morning is hard. Hard, I tell you. Steve and I went on a little getaway to the Smoky Mountains. We rented a cozy little cabin on a hill and had a chance to relax. The cabin had a hot tub, which I was excited about, and a wood burning fireplace which Steve was excited about. Everything was covered in wood and had bears on it. No joke, the couch in the living room had bear-themed upholstery. All-out tacky goodness.
During the day on Saturday we went to Gatlinburg.  It was like a redneck version of Disneyland. It was SO gaudy and overwhelming. There were a bunch of arcades, candy stores, airbrush t-shirt shops, as well as PLENTY of stores where you could buy guns and knives. Every block appeared to have the same stuff, yet everything was packed. Also, the FASHION of Gatlinburg... Wow, just wow. I've never in one location seen so many hot pink velour track suits with glitter hearts. But we did some fun things! We went to Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum and the Aquarium. The aquarium (another Ripley's outfit) was actually quite enjoyable. They have a tunnel under the shark tank where you can walk through and see all the sea life. Plus, PENGUINS. How can you not enjoy penguins?
On Sunday we headed into Pigeon Forge (home of Dollywood y'all!) and had lunch at The Old Mill. These pictures were taken after lunch so please excuse the food baby that I'm sporting. The Old Mill had really good southern food - I had country fried steak and Steve had chicken and dumplings. It was my first time ever trying chicken and dumplings and I was impressed. The dumplings are like gnocci's long lost American cousin.
After our fat-ass lunch we went into Great Smoky Mountains National Park and went for a scenic drive and some small nature hikes. We took a rocky path down to a river and just listened to the sound of the water falling over rocks. It was one of the most perfectly beautiful things I have ever seen. And the best part was we were all alone, just the two of us. Not another human in sight. Absolutely perfect.
So this outfit got me quite a few odd looks in Pigeon Forge. I guess because it was not a hot pink track suit. And yes, once again, I'm wearing the New York City leggings. I love these things and the fact that they don't really match anything means that they match EVERYTHING. The dress was something I picked up at Modcloth's cabin fever sale and I'm very happy with it. The collar is perfect!

So now I'm back in Nashville and back to real life. Real life consists of work, unpacking, and getting 4 cats to get along with each other. Oh how I will miss you, cabin in the mountains!

  3. 4 cats?! If you and Steve weren't living together, that is some serious cat lady status!! I'm sure they'll warm up to each other eventually :). I am totally crazy for these glasses you got recently. They look awesome, and of course I have a soft spot for catseyes. And your hair is SO LONG!!! Gorgeous!

    1. The cat situation. The sad thing is I'm still asking for a new kitten. That would mean 5 cats and Steve has put his foot down. I even find really cute photos of cross-eyed babies up for adoption and he isn't swayed!

I have been growing my hair for nearly 2 years now. I'm not done yet- I want it to get even longer.

  4. Whoa, you went to Gatlinburg this weekend? I'm jealous! That place always makes me think of funnel cake shops every 20 feet. I always think I'll hate it, and then it ends up being unexpectedly fun. Their aquarium is SO GOOD.

Are the cats still in separate rooms? :(

    1. Gatlinburg was enjoyable the same way "People of Walmart" is enjoyable.

Cats are still sequestered, but there are baby gates now! They spend most nights hanging out on opposite sides of the Berlin Wall

  5. I have never been to Gatlinburg and have lived in Nashville my entire life. This needs to change...because I like tacky people!!!!! Only I will NEED to go to DOllyWood. Mandatory. Also, I am so proud of you for trying dumplings. It seems like a southern rite of passage.

  8. This sounds so fun- I am in serious need of a getaway! I love this look on you- I know what you mean about the leggings not matching anything which means they match everything :) That dress is super fun, I didn't see that in the sale, boo! I'm with Erin- I LOVE your hair and those glasses on you! Welcome back to reality...

  10. Oh Gatlinburg...oh the pancake houses of Gatlinburg...I really want to see the Aquarium and the Ripley's up there, but I've never made it up! Too enticed by Gattiland's buffet and scouring places for cheaply made Indian headresses or "My NEXT HUSBAND will be NORMAL" t-shirts the one or two times we went on a weekend when I lived in Knoxville. PS: That outfit is CUTE and I love the "it goes with nothing; ergo, it goes with everything" of the tights; I need to embrace that motto more often in my own wardrobe selections! :)
